Fall flowers are on the make in my side garden- shown here. I am amazed that the yellow daisy-covered swamp sunflower (Helianthus angustifolia) grew as tall as it did in its first year. This giantess was introduced to my yard in June via a swap for one pint-sized division of a lantana (Miss Huff). Both rootings took off at their new homes and should come back dependably each year. I'd call it a fair trade- Thanks Phoebe!
The purple aster 'October Skies' was also a handout from a few years ago. I planted them together by accident. A nice surprise at a time when the rest of my quarter acre has wound down or set seed.
